Federal prosecutors probe Enquirer for plea deal violation

Manhattan federal prosecutors are investigating whether the National Enquirer violated a plea deal — after Amazon boss Jeff Bezos accused the tabloid of trying to blackmail and extort him with nude selfies, sources tell The Post

The magazine’s parent company, American Media Inc., cut a deal with the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office last year to avoid prosecution over a $150,000 hush-money payment to Playboy model Karen McDougal over her alleged affair with President Trump.

The terms of the plea deal say AMI can still be prosecuted if it’s caught committing any crimes after signing the agreement.

Bezos on Thursday accused AMI of “extortion and blackmail” for threatening to release photos of his genitals and other lewd images if he doesn’t stop investigating how the company got its hands on the compromising material and issue a statement saying its coverage of his recent affair was not “politically motivated.”
