Samsung reportedly scrapping free charging bricks with new phones

Apple isn’t the only one getting rid of the freebies that come along with its $1,000 phones – Samsung is cutting back as well.

The South Korean tech giant won’t include a complimentary power adapter or headphones with its upcoming Galaxy 21 phones, according to Brazilian regulatory filings spotted by Tecnoblog.

Samsung had previously been rumored to be scrapping its headphones but keeping the charger.

The Galaxy S21 is Samsung’s next flagship smartphone which will compete against the iPhone 12. It is expected to be released late next month, and is the successor to the $999 Galaxy S20.

The move arrives after Samsung in October publicly mocked Apple for its decision to scrap the accessories – a move it said was designed to curb waste – sharing a post on its Facebook account that showed a picture of a power adapter accompanied by the text “Included with your Galaxy.”
